Water-soluble pencils for drawing, illustration, and mixed-media work — used dry they function like standard pencils, but a brush with water dissolves the pigment into smooth, transparent washes. Caran d'Ache Supracolor Soft Aquarelle is the main line here, covering 120 colors available individually and in sets of 12, 18, 30, 40, 80, and 120 — making it easy to start small and expand. The Caran d'Ache Technalo takes the same water-soluble approach but in graphite rather than color, producing grey tones and washes that can be worked wet or dry across multiple hardness grades.
